Hardwood railings fitted...

Most of the hardwood railings have now been fitted to the lower hulls.

The portlights have also been fitted.

All the inserts for the pad eyes, the cleats and fairleads have also been fitted in the hull decks along with the staunchion pads for the aft railings.

Because most of the electrical and plumbing work in the hulls is now complete the final painting for the deck should be done by the end of next week.   I am looking forward to that as we will be able to then fit all the hatches, dorades and other deck fittings.

We had to take out the main hatch surrounds done by Raoul in Thailand as there is no way they would have been water tight.   These have been rebuilt.

Just came from the Raoul graveyard in Pattaya today. The lady there said she is seriously considering re-naming it the "We Fix Raoul's Garbage Here Boatyard".

Raoul keeps her in business though. She gets to do all the warranty work Raoul should not have to do in the first place.....That would, um, er.....require QUALITY work though, with quality materials.

This repair yard is just littered with 40-60 foot boats that are Raoul JUNK.

The owners have no recourse but to pay half the cost of the construction for a "Maybe" verdict in the courts.

Warranty from Raoul........The guy is demented. Don't EVER think he will EVER touch your boat once he has all your money.

He'won't give it to you until he has 100% of your money though,

He is demented for sure,

Hi Croc,

Did you happen to see Creeds boat there? Any idea what has happened to it?

Thanks

Hi Warren,

I don't think Creed's boat is there, at least I didn't see any Wharram-looking boats in the yard.

I was back down there today & got an update on Raoul though. From what I gathered, he currently has 14 cases pending against him & the Judiciary has finally taken note of that. They tossed him in the can & set bail at 1 million baht per case (Total of 14 Million......he bailed out of jail), but they confiscated his passport pending the outcome of the cases.

All from a pretty reliable source.

What goes around come around.....Karma?

Your boat is looking great!

Sorry to hear you are going to have to postpone your trip by a year though.

Regards,
Croc

Hi Croc,

Thanks for the update. I had heard something similar also from a reliable source. As you say what goes around comes around.

It is interesting there are 14 cases pending. When you consider that only a small percentage of disgruntled customers actually file a complaint in court there must be a lot of people out there who are very unhappy. I have heard that Raoul has had threats of physical violence which is not surprising.

I count myself lucky to have pulled out my boat in time. It cost me time and money but I have to admit it was an interesting experience.

Yes, it would have been nice to have been able to have set sail to Tahiti this April/May but it is just not possible. I am still picking a launch at the end of March but it could run over to April. Part of the reason for that is I want everything finished before it leaves the yard. For example, all the kitchen utensils will be in their place, all the tools, and spare parts etc. I think that it is a lot easier to do all this whilst it is in the yard so if I need to have a bracket put up here and a locating pin put somewhere else so I don't have stuff rattling around.

At least the delay will give me time to get thoroughly familiar with the boat before I leave. I can test it out in storm conditions which we get plenty during our winter. I plan on pulling it out of the water again next March and checking it all over and making any other adjustments on things that I may have overlooked at this stage.

By the way, are you in Pattaya or Bangkok? If in Bangkok and you are interested in getting together for a beer and a yarn drop me an email. I will be back in Thailand around the 7th March.
